My name is
TO CONG
HOANG MINH
Growing up, I learned from my mother that life is too short to be held back by the question, “What if?” Her courage to embrace unfamiliar paths inspired me to approach the world with curiosity rather than certainty. That mindset has taken me across borders, disciplines, and communities from exploring different cultures and expressing ideas through debate and theatre to investigating environmental challenges through scientific research.
Along the way, I discovered that curiosity becomes meaningful when it moves beyond understanding into action. Whether studying mangrove ecosystems, developing community initiatives, or empowering others to find their voices, I strive to connect what I learn with the people and places around me. I am still discovering who I want to become, guided by a simple belief: every experience is an opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow.
Across Borders, Closer to Nature
How exploring the world shaped the way I see, question, and care for it
40+ Countries, Countless Perspectives
Before I could fully understand the world through books, I was discovering it through travel. Exploring over 40 countries exposed me to extraordinary landscapes, diverse cultures, and countless ways people coexist with nature. Every destination brought something unfamiliar, from the rhythms of bustling cities to the quiet beauty of untouched landscapes.
Yet, beyond the excitement of discovering new places, I began noticing the challenges they faced. Urban expansion, disappearing natural habitats, and the growing impacts of climate change made me question how human progress could coexist with the preservation of our planet. Gradually, traveling became more than collecting memories. It became a way of seeing the world with greater curiosity, awareness, and responsibility.

My Mother, My Constant Companion
Across every country I explored, my mother was always beside me. She was more than a travel companion; she was the person who taught me that the greatest discoveries often begin with the courage to step beyond what feels familiar.
Having pursued many different paths throughout her own life, she never viewed uncertainty as something to fear. Instead, she encouraged me to ask questions, welcome new experiences, and never let the thought of “what if?” hold me back. While our journeys introduced me to the world's beauty and complexity, her perspective gave me the confidence to follow my curiosity wherever it might lead.
Through her, I learned that growing up is not about knowing exactly where you are going, but about being willing to discover what truly matters along the way.
Finding Purpose at UWC Robert Bosch College
My journey eventually brought me to UWC Robert Bosch College in Freiburg, Germany. Receiving a full scholarship to join this international community marked a new chapter, one where the curiosity nurtured through years of travel could grow into a deeper understanding of the world.
Surrounded by peers from diverse backgrounds, I found myself questioning not only how our planet works, but also how our choices shape its future. Through classroom discussions, field experiences, and collaborative initiatives, I began connecting what I had witnessed across the world with the challenges facing communities and ecosystems today.
From investigating mangrove ecosystems to participating in conservation initiatives, I gradually discovered that understanding the world also comes with a responsibility to care for it. What began as a journey across countries has become a journey toward something greater: finding my own way to make a difference.
